Ensemble of the Golden Bough

A contemporary perspective on London’s ancient brass heritage and Britain’s visionary classical and folk music traditions by some of the country’s most distinctive players.

The Ensemble of The Golden Bough is documenting the nation’s unique tradition of brass playing, folk song and classical music through live performance, recordings, and concert video documentaries.

Based in London and founded in 2021 by some of the most highly regarded brass musicians in the country, the ensemble was immediately met with rave reviews and requests to perform around the world.

EGB are happy to perform in either a concert setting or educational workshop, and can also offer a boutique arrangement of a regional / local folk song for your event.

Their highly anticipated debut album and concert video ‘British Folk Music for Brass Ensemble: The Land Without Music Vol. 1’ was released digitally in 2021, followed by a physical CD release in 2022. The album presents works by Percy Grainger, John Foulds and Frank Bridge newly arranged for brass quintet as well as new commissions from Ryan Linham, Jonathan Heeley, and Rory Simmons. Philip Cobb, Principal Trumpet of the BBC Symphony and former Principal Trumpet of The London Symphony Orchestra, joins the ensemble as a guest soloist performing works by Benjamin Britten as well as new commissions for trumpet trio.
